Chamber Music Resident Artist Series: Aaron Berofsky and Alexander Gavrylyuk in Recital

The inaugural program of the 2019 Chautauqua Chamber Music Resident Artist Series will feature two world-class faculty members from Chautauqua’s own School of Music. In addition to teaching at Chautauqua, Aaron Berofsky is Professor of Violin at the University of Michigan and has served as visiting Professor at the Hochschule fur Musik in Detmold, Germany. Alexander Gavrylyuk is the Artistic Advisor and Artist-in-Residence of the Chautauqua Piano Program while expanding his international performing career including recent appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Scottish Symphony, and the Hollywood Bowl. This summer, he performs as a soloist both with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra (July 2) and on his own Amphitheater evening recital (July 10).

Note: Due to high expected attendance, complimentary tickets MUST be obtained in advance of this event. Tickets are on a first-come basis at the Welcome Center Ticket Office which opens at 7 a.m. This performance will also be simulcast/livestreamed at additional locations.

Faculty Recital

The creative explosion of the German Lied in the late 18th and early 19th centuries was ignited by the popularity of the fortepiano, along with Goethe and the great composers who set his poetry to music. Please join us for an evening of poetry and music, in which a number of settings of Goethe’s poetry will be performed, placing familiar Lieder by Schubert, Beethoven, and Mozart alongside their lesser-known contemporaries, Carl Friedrich Zelter and Johann Friedrich Reichardt. In the tradition of the Hauskonzert in the time of Schubert, the program will feature instrumental as well as vocal music, with SMTD Professor Berofsky performing Mozart’s Piano and Violin Sonata in B-flat, K.454.
